The definition of “hosting” does not describe only one service, but a set of services that provide a variety of functions to a domain address. Having a website and emails, for example, are two independent services even though in the general case they come together, so many people see them as one single service. The truth is, every single domain name has a several DNS records called A and MX, which show the server that manages each specific service - the first one is a numeric IP address, that specifies where the website for the domain address is loaded from, while the latter is an alphanumeric string, which shows the server that manages the emails for the domain address. For example, an A record would be 123.123.123.123 and an MX record can be mx1.domain.com. Every time you open a site or send an e-mail, the global DNS servers are contacted to check the name servers that a domain has and the traffic/message is first directed to that company. In case you have custom records on their end, the Internet browser request or the e-mail will be directed to the correct server. The concept behind working with separate records is that the two services work with different web protocols and you could have your website hosted by one company and the emails by another.

Custom MX and A Records in Website Hosting

If you have a Linux website hosting package from our company, you're going to be able to view, create and change any A or MX record for your domains. As long as a given domain name has our Name Servers, you're going to be able to modify certain records using our Hepsia hosting Control Panel and have your website or emails directed to another service provider if you want to use only one of our services. Our advanced tool will enable you to have a domain address hosted here and a subdomain below it to be hosted elsewhere by modifying only its A record - this will not affect the main domain the slightest bit. If you choose to use the e-mail services of another provider and they want you to create more than 2 MX records, you can easily do that with only a couple of clicks within the DNS Records section of your Control Panel. You can even set different latency for each MX record i.e. which one is going to have priority.

Custom MX and A Records in Semi-dedicated Hosting

Accessing and editing the A or MX records for each of your domain addresses or subdomains is extremely easy if you acquire a semi-dedicated server plan through our company. The accounts are handled using our in-house built Hepsia Control Panel, which has a section devoted to the DNS records of your domain names. The latter is going to be listed alphabetically and you could click on any of them to see both the A and the MX records. Modifying any record is as simple as typing in the new one in a text box and saving the change, so even when you have never dealt with such matters before, you simply won't experience any difficulties if you want to move your website or emails to a different provider while keeping the second service with our company. If required, you can also create additional MX records and set a certain priority in accordance with the recommendations of the new provider.
